Veteran Peer Support Specialist - Temporary
Overview
JVS SoCal seeks a Veteran Peer Support Specialist to lead in-person outreach across Los Angeles County connecting Veterans National Guard members Military Reservists and their families with essential resources and benefits. The specialist will serve as a trusted liaison advocating for veterans navigating employment housing and VA benefits through direct peer support and community collaboration.
What You'll Do11
- 1Provide in-person peer support using lived experience to build trust and motivate engagement
- 2Conduct regular check-ins to support goal progression and retention in services
- 3Assist veterans in accessing benefits and resources through effective communication
- 4Administer assessments interpret results and model positive coping strategies
- 5Develop individualized service plans coordinate with community partners and track progress
- 6Accompany veterans to appointments workshops and employer activities
- 7Record interactions maintain data systems and prepare reports
- 8Process supportive services requests for temporary financial assistance
- 9Engage in outreach promote veteran centered trauma informed approaches
- 10Host office hours and coordinate group sessions on benefits housing education and employment topics
- 11Maintain HIPAA compliance and obtain MESA Peer Support Certification within four months
Requirements11
- 1BA or BS degree in Career Counseling Communications or related field preferred
- 2Background in Case Management Career Counseling or Mental Health prior experience in Veteran Services or counseling
- 3Minimum two years experience in Veteran Services or career counseling
- 4Passion for veteran related work and ability to multitask
- 5Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software
- 6Reliable transportation to travel throughout Los Angeles County
- 7Strong customer service and counseling expertise with diverse populations
- 8Experience communicating effectively with stakeholders in written and oral forms
- 9Ability to facilitate groups write case notes and work with high risk populations
- 10Knowledge of community services and ability to develop partnerships
- 11Demonstrated experience with veterans veteran organizations and high risk groups

$48 - $50k per year
