
Storage Engineer, VMware & Dell PowerEdge Migration
Overview
You will own the storage infrastructure transition from legacy HP servers to Dell PowerEdge at a large scale. You will manage VMware and vSphere environments across rack and tower servers. Working 100% onsite in New York City, you will coordinate with project teams to execute migrations. Dell OME (OpenManage Enterprise) will be your central management tool. This 12-month contract focuses on execution, not just design.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead the migration of virtualized workloads from legacy HP servers to Dell PowerEdge rack and tower servers.
- 2Configure and manage VMware clusters using vSphere, ensuring minimal downtime during transitions.
- 3Deploy and maintain Dell OME for monitoring and firmware updates across the server fleet.
- 4Document migration runbooks and validate post-migration performance and connectivity.
- 5Troubleshoot hardware and virtualization issues, resolving root causes within service-level targets.
- 6Coordinate with project managers and network engineers to sequence migrations safely.
- 7Perform health checks on storage and compute resources, using PowerEdge diagnostics tools.
- 8Create and update infrastructure diagrams and asset inventories for the transition project.
Requirements8
- 15+ years administering Dell PowerEdge servers in enterprise environments.
- 23+ years hands-on VMware and vSphere administration, including migrations.
- 3Experience with legacy HP server hardware and migration to modern platforms.
- 4Proficiency with Dell OpenManage Enterprise (OME) for lifecycle management.
- 5Knowledge of rack and tower server form factors and cabling requirements.
- 6Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage concepts and virtualization best practices.
- 7Ability to work 100% onsite in New York City for a 12-month contract.
- 8Strong documentation skills for runbooks and migration procedures.
