Program Assistant, Child Advocacy Center
Overview
You will own the front desk experience for a Child Advocacy Center serving 500+ children and families annually. You will be the first point of contact, guiding each visitor through intake and connecting them to the multidisciplinary team of detectives, pediatricians, and prosecutors. You will manage the reception and play areas, ensuring they remain safe, trauma-informed, and welcoming. This role is ideal for someone with a background in human services or customer service who wants to make a direct impact on children and families in crisis.
What You'll Do9
- 1Welcome and orient every child and non-offending family member as they enter the CAC, linking them to the appropriate service providers.
- 2Manage the client reception and child play areas, keeping them supervised, child-focused, and trauma-informed at all times.
- 3Engage children in age-appropriate activities while they wait for services, creating a calm and supportive environment.
- 4Support caregivers and children in a client-centered manner, addressing their needs and concerns during their visit.
- 5Enter case data into CMS, the CAC's case tracking database, ensuring accurate and timely records.
- 6Answer and direct telephone calls, faxes, and mail, serving as the main communication hub for the site.
- 7Perform administrative duties including report preparation, petty cash and voucher management, and payment processing.
- 8Assist the Administrative Coordinator in supervising reception area volunteers.
- 9Straighten up the playroom, interview/observation rooms, and counseling rooms at the end of each day.
Requirements6
- 1High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 21+ years of experience in human services, customer service, or a related field (preferred).
- 3Basic computer skills including data entry, internet use, and email communication.
- 4Strong desire to engage with children and families impacted by violence and trauma.
- 5Ability to work onsite in the Bronx, NY.
- 6Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and empathy.
