Lifeguard, Pool Safety & Lifesaving (11A-4P)
Overview
You will own pool safety for afternoon shifts at the Butler County Family YMCA, safeguarding swimmers in a high-traffic aquatic environment. You will join a team of certified lifeguards and aquatic staff, reporting to the Aquatics Director. Every shift, you will apply CPR/AED and First Aid skills to prevent emergencies and respond decisively. This role stands apart: you will be the first line of defense for member safety, with full support for certification and training.
What You'll Do8
- 1Scan the pool deck continuously, spot hazards, and enforce safety rules with authority
- 2Respond to emergencies immediately, executing CPR/AED and First Aid protocols per YMCA policy
- 3Test pool chemicals at required intervals, adjust as needed, and log results accurately
- 4Conduct equipment checks before each shift, ensuring rescue tubes, backboards, and first aid kits are ready
- 5Document incident and accident reports with precision, submitting them to the Aquatics Director
- 6Maintain a clean and organized pool area, checking for slippery surfaces and obstructions
- 7Greet members and participants, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere aligned with YMCA values
- 8Follow YMCA policies on child abuse prevention and emergency procedures, reporting concerns immediately
Requirements8
- 115 years or older (minimum age required)
- 2Hold a current Lifeguard Certification including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid
- 3Obtain Oxygen Administration certification within 30 days of hire
- 4Pass all required clearances: PA Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Certification, and FBI Clearance
- 5Demonstrate physical readiness: ability to walk, stand, bend, reach, and lift as needed
- 6Maintain certification-level mental readiness, including quick decision-making under stress
- 7Communicate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds
- 8Work a consistent afternoon schedule from 11A-4P, including weekends and holidays
