Swim Instructor, Group and Private Lessons
Overview
You will teach swimming and water safety to individuals with disabilities, adapting lessons to meet diverse learning styles and physical needs. YMCA certification and CPR training come within six months. You work with students and parents, building a welcoming community, and earn $12/hour for group lessons and $17/hour for private lessons. This part-time role at the Butler County Family YMCA includes free membership and discounted programs, with a focus on inclusive instruction.
What You'll Do8
- 1Teach swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines, preparing lesson plans for group and private sessions.
- 2Adapt instruction for students with disabilities, using diverse methods to support learning and safety.
- 3Evaluate student progress and adjust lesson plans to meet individual needs.
- 4Build authentic relationships with students and parents, encouraging involvement and identifying volunteers.
- 5Send information on aquatics programs and schedules, referring families to other YMCA offerings.
- 6Maintain attendance and progress records, completing incident and accident reports as needed.
- 7Attend staff meetings and trainings, and keep pool areas clean, safe, and stocked with equipment.
- 8Follow YMCA policies for medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
Requirements7
- 1Minimum age of 15
- 2Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- 3YMCA Swim Instructor Certification within 6 months of employment
- 4CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification within 6 months of employment
- 5Ability to relate to diverse groups from all social and economic segments
- 6Ability to perform physical tasks: walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting
- 7Pass clearances: PA Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Certification, FBI Clearance, NSOR, and Mandated Reporter Training
