What You'll Do11

  • 1Design and execute lesson plans using the YMCA swim curriculum
  • 2Enforce safety policies and emergency procedures during all aquatic activities
  • 3Assess student progress through skill evaluations and provide certification updates
  • 4Maintain accurate class rosters and track individual development milestones
  • 5Utilize teaching aids and aquatic equipment to enhance instructional effectiveness
  • 6Communicate student placement decisions and program information to families
  • 7Prepare comprehensive session plans addressing instructional objectives
  • 8Instruct proper use of flotation devices and aquatic safety tools
  • 9Address member concerns promptly applying problem-solving strategies
  • 10Adhere to YMCA safety standards and complete required emergency response training
  • 11Collaborate with Aquatics Director on program development and quality assurance

Requirements9

  • 1Current American Safety & Health Institute or American Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS for the Professional Rescuer Standard/Community First Aid certifications Emergency Oxygen Administration
  • 2YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification or ARC Water Safety Instructor American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training preferred
  • 3Physical ability to perform 25 yards of six competitive swim strokes
  • 4Proficiency in tread water techniques including 2 minute continuous effort with varied kicks
  • 5Strong communication skills for participant placement discussions and program promotion
  • 6Experience with cause driven leadership principles and YMCA core values
  • 7Minimum age requirement of 16 years old
  • 8Ability to demonstrate Six Pillars of Character in all interactions
  • 9Demonstrated commitment to operational effectiveness and personal growth development
