Overview

You will own all aquatic operations for the Greater Austin YMCA, overseeing programs that serve 140,000 community members each year. You will lead a team of lifeguards and swim instructors, ensuring safety, quality, and growth across multiple facilities. This role sits on the Impact Team, driving strategic planning for the aquatics department. You will build partnerships with schools and community groups to expand access to swim lessons and water safety. What You'll Do8

  • 1Hire, coach, and manage a high-performing aquatics team, conducting regular check-ins to ensure progress on goals.
  • 2Design and launch new aquatics programs based on community needs, using data to evaluate and improve engagement.
  • 3Oversee safety and compliance, ensuring all staff hold current BLS, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguarding, and Swim Instruction certifications.
  • 4Manage the aquatics budget, monitor expenses, and validate payroll to ensure accurate compensation.
  • 5Develop staff schedules to guarantee coverage for all programs and facilities, resolving conflicts proactively.
  • 6Drive member engagement through social media, digital platforms, and on-site events, responding to inquiries quickly.
  • 7Lead fundraising initiatives like Project SAFE and represent aquatics on the Impact Team for strategic decisions.
  • 8Serve as Director on Duty, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for members and staff.

Requirements10

  • 12-3 years of leadership experience in aquatics, recreation, or youth development.
  • 2Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3Proven ability to recruit, coach, and retain high-performing leaders while fostering accountability.
  • 4Experience managing program operations, scheduling, safety compliance, and risk management.
  • 5Knowledge of budgeting, payroll administration, and financial management.
  • 6Strong communication, customer service, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • 7Current certifications: BLS (CPR-PRO), First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguarding, and Swim Instruction.
  • 8Ability to obtain Lifeguard Instructor and Swim Instructor certifications within six months of hire.
  • 9Must obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within three months of hire.
  • 10Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
