Overview

You will lead all aquatic operations and programs for the Greater Austin YMCA, serving over 140,000 members and participants across Travis and Hays counties. You own the safety, quality, and growth of every pool, class, and certification. You will build a high-performing team through coaching and mentorship, and manage program budgets, scheduling, and compliance. This role also drives community partnerships and expands impactful programming for children and families. You will report to the Impact Team and serve as a liaison for the Project SAFE initiative.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build and lead a high-performing aquatics team through intentional recruitment, coaching, and development of all direct reports.
  • 2Design and launch engaging aquatics programs that meet community needs and boost member satisfaction, using data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
  • 3Own department payroll with precision, ensuring timely and accurate compensation for all staff.
  • 4Conduct comprehensive safety audits, verifying staff certifications and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • 5Oversee the accuracy of all aquatics information across platforms, including social media and digital channels, to enhance member engagement.
  • 6Manage the aquatics budget, allocating resources effectively and monitoring expenses to meet financial goals.
  • 7Create staff schedules that ensure full coverage for all programs and facilities, resolving conflicts to maintain smooth operations.
  • 8Drive fundraising efforts and special events, acting as the cause-driven leader on duty and representing the aquatics department on the Impact Team.
  • 9Serve as the primary liaison for Project SAFE, ensuring successful implementation and impact within the community.
  • 10Respond promptly to member inquiries, resolving issues with a focus on satisfaction and relationship-building.

Requirements15

  • 1Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Business Administration, Sports Management, Nonprofit Management, Human Services, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 22-3 years of leadership experience in aquatics, recreation, or youth development, including supervising and developing teams.
  • 3Demonstrated ability to recruit, coach, and retain high-performing leaders, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • 4Experience in program operations, scheduling, safety compliance, and risk management.
  • 5Knowledge of budgeting, payroll administration, and financial management principles.
  • 6Experience evaluating program effectiveness and using data to improve participant outcomes.
  • 7Strong relationship-building skills with members, families, community partners, and colleagues.
  • 8Excellent communication, customer service, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • 9Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • 10Current certifications in BLS (CPR-PRO), First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguarding, and Swim Instruction.
  • 11Lifeguard Instructor and Swim Instructor certifications, or able to obtain within six months of hire.
  • 12Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within three months of hire.
  • 13YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (YLGIT) and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer (YSLIT) certifications preferred.
  • 14Familiarity with aquatic management software and scheduling tools preferred.
  • 15Bilingual in Spanish and English highly preferred.
