Intake Attorney Employment Law Los Angeles
Overview
You will own the initial evaluation of individual employment claims for a growing plaintiff-side practice in Los Angeles, screening 20+ intake calls weekly. You will apply California Labor Code and federal statutes to assess wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and wage disputes. You will work alongside intake coordinators, paralegals, and senior attorneys to decide case acceptance. This role focuses on substantive legal analysis without the demands of active litigation management. You will be the first point of contact for workers seeking justice, making a direct impact on their cases.
What You'll Do8
- 1Conduct comprehensive intake interviews with 20+ prospective clients weekly, documenting their workplace facts and concerns.
- 2Evaluate potential claims under Title VII, FEHA, and California Labor Code, determining legal viability and damages.
- 3Prepare detailed case evaluations and legal summaries for senior attorneys, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and acceptance criteria.
- 4Explain complex legal rights and options to clients in plain language, ensuring they understand their next steps.
- 5Guide qualified clients through onboarding, coordinating with intake coordinators and paralegals to ensure efficient processing.
- 6Manage a high volume of calls and inquiries, maintaining accurate case records in the firm's case management system.
- 7Refer out matters outside the firm's practice areas, ensuring clients receive appropriate guidance.
- 8Collaborate with attorneys on novel legal issues, researching ADA, FMLA, ADEA, and FLSA as needed.
Requirements8
- 1J.D. from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership in good standing.
- 21-3+ years of employment law or plaintiff-side litigation experience preferred.
- 3Strong knowledge of Title VII, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, FLSA, California Labor Code, and FEHA.
- 4Demonstrated legal analysis and issue-spotting skills, with the ability to assess case strengths and damages.
- 5Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to explain legal concepts to clients practically.
- 6Proven organizational and time-management abilities, handling high-volume client inquiries with professionalism.
- 7Familiarity with case management and intake software platforms preferred.
- 8Experience conducting client intake interviews and evaluating employment-related claims preferred.
Salary Insight
$130 - $180k per year
