Overview

You will own litigation calendar management and legal drafting at a 35-year-old landlord-tenant firm handling 200+ active cases. You'll work directly with attorneys on case strategy, court filings, and deadline tracking. This role sits at the center of a small, collaborative team, where you will also cross-train on firm operations. What sets this apart: direct involvement in case decisions and a reputation for precision in a technically demanding practice area.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Manage the firm's litigation calendar, scheduling court dates, filing deadlines, notice periods, and post-hearing obligations across all active cases.
  • 2Review minute orders and identify additional court-imposed deadlines or requirements, then execute follow-up actions.
  • 3Draft discovery requests, responses, simple motions, notices, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and compliance with California codes.
  • 4Coordinate with attorneys to ensure every appearance is covered and all pre-hearing materials are prepared, including declarations and trial documents.
  • 5Stay current on active cases, anticipate next steps, and take initiative to move matters forward without waiting for direction.
  • 6Follow up with clients and opposing parties to gather evidence, clarify issues, and keep cases on schedule.
  • 7Cross-train on firm operations to provide coverage for scheduling, client intake, and administrative tasks as needed.
  • 8Monitor filing deadlines and statutory requirements, proactively flagging risks and resolving conflicts before they cause delays.

Requirements7

  • 12+ years as a paralegal in civil litigation, ideally with landlord-tenant or real estate exposure.
  • 2Strong reading comprehension to quickly absorb and apply dense legal documents, statutes, and case materials.
  • 3Exceptional attention to detail, with a track record of catching errors in filings and deadlines.
  • 4Customer service mindset: patience, clarity, and reliability in every client interaction.
  • 5Proven initiative, staying ahead of open items and completing tasks without direct supervision.
  • 6Proficiency with legal research tools and MS Office; experience with case management software is a plus.
  • 7Ability to work in-office full-time in Los Angeles, with flexibility for occasional overtime near deadlines.
