
Compute Operations Manager, VMware & Windows/Linux
Overview
The Compute Operations Manager owns enterprise compute infrastructure across VMware, Windows, and Linux, ensuring high availability, security, and operational excellence. This client-facing leadership role drives delivery governance and manages stakeholder expectations in a managed services environment. VMware and Windows Server expertise anchors daily operations. This role bridges technical depth with customer leadership, shaping infrastructure strategy for the client.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead day-to-day compute operations for VMware clusters, Windows servers, and Linux environments, ensuring uptime and performance.
- 2Drive incident, problem, and change management processes for compute infrastructure, minimizing downtime and restoring service quickly.
- 3Direct capacity planning and performance tuning across vSphere, Windows Server, and RHEL hosts, scaling resources proactively.
- 4Serve as the primary escalation point for client infrastructure issues, translating technical status into business terms.
- 5Own delivery metrics and service level agreements, reporting on operational health and continuous improvement plans.
- 6Mentor a team of engineers on VMware and Windows best practices, raising technical standards across the group.
- 7Collaborate with security teams to harden compute environments, applying patches and compliance configurations across Linux and Windows.
- 8Run weekly operational reviews with stakeholders, presenting performance data and action items.
Requirements8
- 15+ years managing enterprise compute environments with VMware vSphere and Windows Server
- 23+ years hands-on experience with Linux administration (e.g., RHEL or Ubuntu)
- 3Proven track record in a client-facing operational leadership role, with strong delivery governance skills
- 4Deep understanding of high availability, clustering, and disaster recovery in VMware environments
- 5Experience with PowerShell or Python scripting for automation
- 6Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP in a Windows-centric ecosystem
- 7Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, able to lead technical discussions with executives
- 8Preferred: VMware VCP or Microsoft MCSE certification, but equivalent experience accepted
