Overview
Own the health and performance of a large-scale hybrid data center running VMware VCF, vSphere, ESXi, and VxRail. Manage the virtualization stack across compute, networking, and storage for thousands of VMs. Collaborate with storage, network, and Linux teams on system integrations. Drive automation to eliminate manual patching and provisioning. This role centers on stabilizing and scaling enterprise infrastructure in Pittsburgh.
What You'll Do10
- 1Manage and troubleshoot VMware environments including VCF, vSphere, ESXi, VxRail, vCenter, networking, and storage daily.
- 2Install and upgrade VMware components and VxRail nodes across multiple clusters with zero downtime.
- 3Patch and update ESXi hosts and vCenter appliances each quarter, reducing vulnerabilities.
- 4Monitor performance and capacity of virtual clusters, then tune CPU, memory, and storage for SLA compliance.
- 5Automate repeatable tasks like VM provisioning and host maintenance using PowerCLI and Ansible.
- 6Troubleshoot storage and network issues tied to VMware virtual switches and NSX.
- 7Document architecture, runbooks, and change requests for the virtualization platform.
- 8Collaborate with backup teams to validate Veeam recovery of critical VMs.
- 9Drive root-cause analysis on virtual layer faults, cutting unplanned downtime 20%.
- 10Lead migration of older ESXi hosts to VCF management domains.
Requirements9
- 15+ years managing enterprise VMware environments in production.
- 2Hands-on VCF (VMware Cloud Foundation) and VxRail administration experience.
- 3Deep knowledge of vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and virtual networking.
- 4Experience with Nutanix AHV for hybrid environments.
- 53+ years automating infrastructure with PowerCLI, Ansible, or Terraform.
- 6Solid grasp of storage protocols (FC, iSCSI, NFS) and VMware integration.
- 7Ability to troubleshoot multi-layer issues across compute, network, and storage.
- 8Strong documentation and communication skills for incident handoffs.
- 9Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
