Assistant Department Manager, Stone & Flooring Retail
Overview
You will own department performance, staff training, and customer experience at a high-volume flooring retail store. Floor & Decor serves DIY and pro customers with a vast stone and tile selection, and you will be the operational backbone of the stone department. You will lead a team of Product Sales Specialists in a fast-moving warehouse environment, ensuring every customer finds the right product. This role offers a clear path to store management with structured Assistant Manager training.
What You'll Do9
- 1Train and develop Product Sales Specialists on sales techniques, product knowledge, and safety standards
- 2Drive store metrics for department revenue, customer satisfaction, and inventory accuracy
- 3Ensure flawless execution of stone department merchandising: pricing, signing, and product placement
- 4Lead daily team huddles and shift briefings to set clear priorities and expectations
- 5Coach associates on the Basic P's of Retail (People, Position, Product, Presentation, Price, Promotion, Purchasing) to deliver a premium shopping experience
- 6Handle escalated customer issues with composure, offering solutions that retain loyalty
- 7Collaborate with store management to plan seasonal promotions and stone product launches
- 8Complete and maintain Industrial Truck (forklift) certification to coordinate freight flow
- 9Audit safety compliance and lift techniques on the floor to prevent accidents
Requirements7
- 11+ years in retail sales or customer service, with experience in a big-box environment
- 2High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree in business or retail management preferred
- 3Proof of completion of Product Specialist Certification courses within 60 days of hire
- 4OSHA forklift certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
- 5Valid driver's license to operate company vehicles for customer deliveries
- 6Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
- 7Physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds and stand/walk for full shifts
