Overview
Identify, appraise, and purchase pre-owned vehicles to maintain a profitable dealership inventory. You will source from private sellers, trade-ins, fleet auctions, and wholesalers, managing the full acquisition cycle. Perform physical and mechanical inspections, review Carfax reports, and estimate reconditioning costs. Collaborate with sales and service teams to align inventory with market demand. This role drives direct gross profit and requires sharp negotiation instincts.
What You'll Do9
- 1Prospect and identify viable vehicles from private sellers, customer trade-ins, fleet auctions, and wholesalers.
- 2Perform thorough physical and mechanical inspections on candidate vehicles.
- 3Review Carfax and vehicle history reports to assess title status and accident history.
- 4Estimate reconditioning costs and determine maximum allowable purchase prices.
- 5Present offers and negotiate terms with sellers to secure vehicles at target gross margins.
- 6Complete all required legal documentation, including titles, bills of sale, and auction paperwork.
- 7Manage multiple inventory leads simultaneously, tracking status and follow-ups.
- 8Coordinate with sales and service teams to ensure vehicles meet quality standards for resale.
- 9Stay current on market values and auction trends to inform buying decisions.
Requirements7
- 11+ years in automotive sales, buying, or related field.
- 2Strong knowledge of car makes, models, and mechanical conditions.
- 3Proven negotiation skills to close deals with skeptical sellers.
- 4High attention to detail for paperwork and inventory management.
- 5Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record.
- 6Pass background and drug screenings.
- 7Ability to work on-site in Detroit, Michigan.
