Unix Administrator, Systems Support & Maintenance
Overview
You will run daily administration and support for Unix/Linux servers at a client site in Boston, MA. You own server availability, system troubleshooting, and routine maintenance across production environments. You work onsite with a team handling Red Hat Linux and Solaris systems in a contract role. This position puts you directly in the client's operations flow with hands-on problem solving from day one.
What You'll Do9
- 1Administer and support Unix and Linux servers to ensure high availability and performance.
- 2Troubleshoot and resolve system issues across Red Hat Linux and Solaris environments, minimizing downtime.
- 3Perform routine maintenance tasks including patching, updates, and backups on production servers.
- 4Monitor system health, logs, and performance metrics to identify and address potential issues proactively.
- 5Support production environments with 24/7 on-call rotation as needed, responding to alerts and incidents.
- 6Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy and configure new servers and services.
- 7Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing.
- 8Drive root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventive measures.
- 9Ensure compliance with client policies and security standards in all system administration tasks.
Requirements7
- 13+ years hands-on experience administering Unix and Linux servers in production environments.
- 2Strong proficiency with Red Hat Linux and Solaris operating systems.
- 3Experience with shell scripting (bash, Korn shell) for automation and task execution.
- 4Familiarity with system monitoring tools such as Nagios or Zabbix.
- 5Knowledge of network services (DNS, NFS, LDAP) and server hardening practices.
- 6Ability to document system architecture and troubleshooting procedures clearly.
- 7Onsite availability in Boston, MA with ability to support 24/7 operations as required.
