Linux Systems Administrator, Red Hat & Automation
Overview
You will own the design, deployment, and maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments for a mission-critical federal program. You will ensure reliable and secure operations across a Linux infrastructure, supporting a team that values technical depth and autonomy. This contract role in Washington, District of Columbia requires onsite presence and offers the chance to tackle complex system challenges with modern scripting and automation tools.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and deploy Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems, ensuring high availability and security compliance.
- 2Debug and resolve complex system issues, from kernel panics to network failures, within Linux environments.
- 3Build and maintain automation scripts using Bash and Python to streamline system administration tasks.
- 4Drive performance tuning and capacity planning for RHEL servers, optimizing CPU, memory, and I/O.
- 5Manage system updates and patches using Satellite and Ansible to maintain security and stability.
- 6Document system configurations and procedures to support knowledge sharing and audit readiness.
- 7Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Linux systems with broader IT infrastructure.
- 8Ensure compliance with federal security standards, including STIG and CIS baselines.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of hands-on Linux administration experience, with a strong focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- 23+ years of scripting experience in Bash and Python for automation and process improvement.
- 3Expertise in networking concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, and load balancing within Linux environments.
- 4Hands-on experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet.
- 5Familiarity with system monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus.
- 6Experience with VMware or KVM virtualization in a production environment.
- 7Red Hat Certified Engineer or equivalent certification is highly desired.
- 8Experience in a federal or government contract environment is a plus.
