Overview
Thoracic Surgeon at Shady Grove Medical Center will own the full spectrum of thoracic surgical care, from diagnosis to post-operative management, serving a high-volume patient population in the Washington, D.C. metro area. What You'll Do8
- 1Respond to emergency thoracic surgery calls and provide immediate surgical intervention during on-call shifts.
- 2Diagnose and treat patients presenting with thoracic symptoms and diseases, from initial assessment to recovery.
- 3Collaborate with ED and Hospital Medicine staff to coordinate comprehensive patient care plans.
- 4Perform surgical procedures with precision, using advanced techniques in thoracic surgery to achieve optimal outcomes.
- 5Document patient encounters and surgical details accurately in the electronic health record system within 24 hours.
- 6Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews to refine treatment protocols and improve surgical quality.
- 7Educate patients and families on surgical options, pre-operative preparation, and post-operative care plans.
- 8Maintain readiness for on-call emergencies, ensuring rapid response and availability as required by the schedule.
Requirements8
- 1Board certified or eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
- 25+ years of post-residency experience in thoracic surgery.
- 3Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- 4MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an accredited thoracic surgery residency.
- 5Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the state of Maryland.
- 6Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with ED and Hospital Medicine teams in an acute care setting.
- 7Willingness to uphold the mission of Adventist HealthCare and provide compassionate care to diverse populations.
- 8Ability to work Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with on-call as required.
