Staff Nurse II, Clinical Decision Unit Nights
Overview
You will own patient care in the Clinical Decision Unit, coordinating care for acute patients from admission through discharge at a 327-bed public teaching hospital. You will work nights alongside a multidisciplinary team using the Synergy Model to match care to patient acuity. This role requires 1+ years of clinical nursing experience and an Indiana RN license. What You'll Do9
- 1Deliver evidence-based nursing care using the Synergy Model for patients in the Clinical Decision Unit during night shifts.
- 2Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, documenting in the electronic medical record according to policy.
- 3Respond to emergencies with calm and professionalism, stabilizing patients and coordinating with the care team.
- 4Engage patients and families with health education, providing written materials and verbal explanations tailored to their needs.
- 5Round hourly on assigned patients to assess care and service, addressing concerns promptly.
- 6Collaborate with the nursing manager and shift coordinator to adjust staffing based on census and acuity, ensuring adequate coverage.
- 7Precept new staff and students, supporting their development and fostering a positive team environment.
- 8Participate in shared governance at unit and hospital levels, contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
- 9Use critical thinking to recognize changes in patient status, interpret results, and intervene appropriately.
Requirements8
- 1Current Indiana RN license and BLS certification.
- 21+ years of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
- 3Competence in administering medications and treatments, using specialized equipment, and performing CPR.
- 4Knowledge of nursing theories, current clinical concepts, and age-specific care across the lifespan.
- 5Ability to assess patient needs, delegate tasks effectively, and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- 6Skill in positioning patients and assisting with evacuation via stairwells if needed.
- 7Proficiency in critical thinking and responding to changes in patient status.
- 8Effective communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
