Registered Nurse Clinical Decision Unit Days
Overview
You will own patient care in the Clinical Decision Unit at Memorial Regional Hospital, managing a high-acuity observation population with 3-5 patients per shift. You will coordinate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, specialists, and discharge planners to drive safe, timely disposition. This role stands apart through its focus on rapid assessment and complex care coordination in a dedicated observation unit, with exposure to ONCC Chemotherapy protocols for qualified RNs.
What You'll Do8
- 1Assess patients on arrival and implement the plan of care within the first hour, prioritizing Clinical Decision Unit protocols.
- 2Document patient condition and response to interventions using Epic charting, with updates every 2 hours.
- 3Delegate tasks to ancillary staff, ensuring vitals and glucose checks are completed on schedule.
- 4Educate patients and families on observation status, discharge instructions, and follow-up care within 24 hours.
- 5Coordinate with case management and social work to arrange post-discharge services, reducing readmissions.
- 6Administer IV medications and monitor for adverse reactions, using BLS protocols as needed.
- 7Precept new graduate nurses during their orientation, modeling critical thinking in a fast-paced unit.
- 8Collaborate with physicians to expedite diagnostic testing and consults, achieving a 4-hour average length of stay.
Requirements8
- 1Accredited Program in Nursing (required).
- 2One (1) year of RN work experience.
- 3BLS certification from American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- 4Registered Nurse License for the State of Florida, or Compact License.
- 5ACLS required within 6 months for new graduate RNs.
- 6PALS required within 30 days for non-pediatric background RNs.
- 7ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate required for RNs administering chemotherapy.
- 8Competency in patient assessment, care planning, and delegation.
