Overview

You will own nursing care for assigned patients in the Clinical Decision Unit at Methodist Southwest Medical Center, a 314-bed teaching hospital in Dallas. Working weekends part-time, you apply the nursing process from assessment through evaluation, directing team members and collaborating across disciplines. What You'll Do8

  • 1Assess patient conditions upon admission and throughout the shift, using EPIC to document findings and adjust care plans.
  • 2Deliver direct patient care including medication administration, wound care, and monitoring vital signs for stability.
  • 3Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and social workers to coordinate discharge planning and transitions of care.
  • 4Supervise LVNs and CNAs, delegating tasks and ensuring compliance with unit standards.
  • 5Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and self-care strategies for post-discharge success.
  • 6Respond to changes in patient status, initiating emergency protocols such as Code Blue when needed.
  • 7Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all nursing interventions and outcomes.
  • 8Participate in unit huddles and quality improvement projects to enhance patient safety and experience.

Requirements7

  • 1Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (BSN preferred).
  • 2Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • 3Current license to practice professional nursing in Texas or eligibility to obtain one.
  • 4Additional certifications as required by department, such as ACLS or PALS.
  • 51+ year of RN experience in an acute care setting.
  • 6Strong communication skills to build rapport with patients and families.
  • 7Ability to work weekends and provide coverage for the Clinical Decision Unit.
