Sr. Systems Engineer, Email Security Migration
Overview
You will lead the migration from on-premises IronPort appliances to Proofpoint cloud email security. You will own the technical design and execution, ensuring a seamless transition with zero email downtime. You will work onsite in Washington, DC alongside a small technical team, reporting directly to the IT director. This contract role focuses exclusively on the Proofpoint rollout, from firewall rule setup to final cutover.
What You'll Do7
- 1Design the migration path from IronPort to Proofpoint, documenting architecture and cutover plans.
- 2Configure Proofpoint email security policies, including mail flow, spam filtering, and data loss prevention.
- 3Set up Proofpoint firewall rules and network changes to support cloud traffic.
- 4Execute the migration during off-peak hours, monitoring email flow for issues.
- 5Troubleshoot email delivery problems post-migration, working with Proofpoint support as needed.
- 6Deliver a handoff document to the operations team, covering day-to-day administration.
- 7Drive the project to completion within the 6-month contract window.
Requirements7
- 15+ years in systems engineering with a focus on email security.
- 2Expert-level experience designing and configuring Proofpoint as an enterprise service.
- 3Hands-on experience migrating from IronPort or similar on-premises email gateways.
- 4Proficiency in setting firewall rules for cloud-based email security.
- 5Deep understanding of SMTP, DNS, and email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
- 6Strong troubleshooting skills in high-availability email environments.
- 7Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC (local only).
