Overview
Lead the migration from on-premises IronPort appliances to Proofpoint cloud-based email security, owning the full lifecycle in a DMV-area enterprise. Manage Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway 8.x, firewall rules, and block/quarantine operations across hybrid environments. Work hands-on with Linux and VMware while collaborating with security and infrastructure teams. This contract role requires onsite presence in Washington, DC, with a clear focus on email security modernization.
What You'll Do7
- 1Architect and execute the migration from IronPort to Proofpoint, including cutover planning and validation
- 2Configure and tune Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway 8.x for mail flow, policy, and filtering
- 3Manage firewall rules, block lists, and quarantine policies to align with security requirements
- 4Maintain and optimize Linux servers supporting email security infrastructure
- 5Deploy and manage virtual machines on VMware for staging and production environments
- 6Troubleshoot email delivery, spam, and phishing incidents, implementing fixes within 24 hours
- 7Document migration steps, runbooks, and operational procedures for the security team
Requirements7
- 15+ years hands-on engineering with Proofpoint enterprise solutions, including IronPort-to-Proofpoint migrations
- 2Strong expertise in Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway 8.x configuration and administration
- 3Proven experience managing firewall rules, block/quarantine lists, and email security policies
- 43+ years working with Linux (CentOS, RHEL) in production environments
- 52+ years deploying and managing virtual machines on VMware (vSphere/ESXi)
- 6Local to the DMV area and able to work onsite in Washington, DC
- 7Ability to pass a background check and obtain clearance if required
