Senior Lifeguard, Aquatics Facility & Team Supervision
Overview
The Aquaplex Senior Lifeguard owns daily aquatics operations at San Diego State University's Aztec Aquaplex, ensuring safety and compliance for thousands of visitors. Reporting to the Aquaplex Manager, this role supervises junior lifeguards, coordinates programs, and maintains water quality. They handle emergencies with CPR and First Aid, and manage facility events. This position offers a path to leadership within Associated Students, with $24.67-$27.00 hourly pay.
What You'll Do8
- 1Enforce safety rules and respond to emergencies, administering CPR or First Aid as needed
- 2Test water chemistry and adjust chlorine and pH levels, and maintain pool covers and cleanliness
- 3Supervise lifeguards and member services staff, ensuring coverage and policy adherence
- 4Coordinate aquatic programs and events, including intramurals and rentals, with Fusion software
- 5Train and coach new lifeguards on rescue techniques and safety procedures
- 6Lead staff meetings and stay updated on emergency protocols and policy changes
- 7Perform administrative tasks, including scheduling with When to Work
- 8Manage daily operations in the manager's absence, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment
Requirements9
- 12+ years of supervisory experience in recreation or a related field
- 2Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications
- 3Current Water Safety Instructor certification or obtain within 60 days
- 4Current Lifeguard Instructor certification or obtain within 120 days
- 5Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field preferred
- 6Experience with aquatic facility management and programming
- 7Proficiency with Fusion software and When to Work scheduling preferred
- 8Ability to lift 45 lbs unassisted
- 9Must complete trainings within 30 days: Anti-Harassment, Workplace Violence Prevention, Data Security & Privacy, Gender Awareness
