Senior Electrical Engineer, Medical Device Hardware
Overview
You will design and develop complex electro-opto-mechanical systems for the next-generation corneal cross-linking medical device. Own end-to-end electrical hardware development, from circuit design and PCB layout to system integration and verification. Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and regulatory teams in a regulated environment. This role drives hardware from concept through lifecycle support, with direct impact on patient safety. Work onsite in Burlington, MA, with Altium Designer as your primary tool.
What You'll Do10
- 1Design analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power electronic circuits for medical device subsystems.
- 2Perform schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design/layout using Altium Designer.
- 3Conduct PCB bring-up, testing, debugging, and root-cause analysis to reach design maturity.
- 4Run circuit simulations in PSpice, LTspice, and MATLAB/Simulink for DC, AC, transient, and noise analysis.
- 5Execute worst-case, tolerance, reliability, thermal, and power distribution analyses to ensure robust designs.
- 6Select and integrate electrical components such as displays, power supplies, motors, sensors, and single-board computers.
- 7Develop electrical wiring diagrams and system-level documentation for manufacturing and service.
- 8Maintain PCB CAD tools, Altium libraries, templates, and configuration management.
- 9Support prototype builds and hardware-firmware integration with embedded systems.
- 10Define and execute electrical verification and validation protocols per FDA Design Controls and ISO 13485.
Requirements9
- 15+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience.
- 2Bachelors or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3Strong experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- 4Hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, mixed-signal electronics.
- 5Proficiency with PSpice, LTspice, and MATLAB/Simulink for simulation.
- 6Experience with signal integrity, power integrity, EMC/EMI analysis, and thermal simulation.
- 7Knowledge of motor control, sensors, and communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Wi-Fi, BLE).
- 8Experience with FDA Design Controls, ISO 13485/QMS, and medical device development.
- 9Knowledge of IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2 electrical safety and EMC standards.
