Overview

You own the sanitation cycle for a major meat processing plant, ensuring equipment meets USDA standards for 3:30pm to midnight shifts. Work alongside a tight-knit team of Sanitation Associates and report to the Sanitation Supervisor. You will master GMP, SSOP, and LOTO protocols while operating high-pressure wash systems. This role pairs hands-on mechanical work with detailed documentation, all in a facility that processes over 1 million pounds weekly. You will own the line from breakdown to sign-off, with direct impact on food safety and production uptime.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Disassemble, clean, and sanitize meat processing equipment to USDA standards within the 3:30pm to midnight shift window.
  • 2Apply food-grade chemicals and sanitizers, calibrating concentrations using test strips and pH meters.
  • 3Document sanitation tasks in electronic logs (e.g., SAP or RedZone) to maintain audit-ready records.
  • 4Execute Lockout/Tagout procedures to safely isolate machinery during cleaning operations.
  • 5Inspect equipment post-cleaning using ATP swabs and visual checks to ensure zero residue.
  • 6Reassemble machinery and run test cycles to verify operational readiness for the next production shift.
  • 7Coordinate with QA and Production teams to prioritize cleaning schedule based on shift start times.

Requirements7

  • 11+ years in food manufacturing sanitation or 2+ years in industrial cleaning roles.
  • 2Comfortable working in wet, humid, cold environments (refrigerated areas) with temperatures as low as 40°F.
  • 3Ability to lift 60 lbs and stand for 8-10 hours, including frequent crouching and overhead work.
  • 4Certified in HACCP or ServSafe is a plus.
  • 5Willingness to wear PPE including rubber boots, aprons, gloves, and face shields.
  • 6Flexibility for mandatory overtime and weekends during peak production seasons.
  • 7Basic computer literacy for electronic log entry and barcode scanning.
