The Reliability and Market Operations Engineer leads engineering support for reliability coordination and real-time grid operations at the California ISO. This 24x7 rotating shift role involves establishing operating limits and modeling market constraints to ensure safe electricity delivery. What You'll Do11
- 1Establish and update grid operating limits and documentation supporting safe system operation
- 2Model transmission constraints in the ISO market for efficient operations and reliability
- 3Conduct power flow short circuit and stability analyses using PSS/E and other tools
- 4Develop outage plans and operating procedures aligned with NERC standards
- 5Perform contingency analyses to maintain grid reliability during abnormal conditions
- 6Support ISO divisions with engineering tasks related to market operations and policy development
- 7Provide feedback on ISO-controlled grid operations to management and participate in industry meetings
- 8Assist in creating automated monitoring tools for transmission system performance
- 9Analyze renewable integration and transmission planning challenges
- 10Lead simulation studies on harmonic and transient stability issues
- 11Collaborate with teams to resolve complex technical problems under pressure
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power concentration or Master's preferred
- 22+ years relevant experience in power systems engineering
- 3NERC Reliability Authority certification or ability to obtain within six months
- 4Expertise in simulation software including PSS/E PSLF powerworld VSAT TSAT
- 5Experience with California Electric System or WECC components
- 6Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Access and Visio
- 7Ability to work autonomously in high-pressure environments with minimal supervision
- 8Excellent communication abilities for cross-functional collaboration
- 9Demonstrated teamwork and leadership capabilities in dynamic settings
