Overview
1898 & Co., a Division of Burns & McDonnell Nationwide Opportunities seeks Transmission Planning Consultants to support a growing nationwide consulting practice. The role involves evaluating grid performance and developing solutions for generation retirements renewable integration congestion management and regulatory compliance. Candidates will collaborate with project managers clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver data-driven consulting solutions.
What You'll Do11
- 1Perform transmission planning and operational studies including power flow transient stability transfer capability short-circuit voltage and reactive analysis harmonics EMT studies reliability assessments and production cost modeling
- 2Execute studies independently using industry-standard tools such as PSS®E PSLF PSCAD EMTP ATP SKM ETAP and PROMOD
- 3Evaluate compliance with NERC FERC and regional RTO/ISO requirements including TPL standards and generator interconnection processes
- 4Apply engineering economic and financial analysis to assess system performance risks and life-cycle costs
- 5Develop clear technical reports and client-facing presentations summarizing study results and recommendations
- 6Create client presentations engineering reviews financial analysis and contract administration for utility system design and planning
- 7Conduct technical and business-related risk assessments related to regulatory agency rules
- 8Adapt and modify standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures
- 9Analyze engineering financial and economic conditions and interpret technical business implications
- 10Support project managers with technical execution client deliverables and proposal development
- 11Collaborate across internal practices and support other business lines as needed
Requirements14
- 1Proven experience in transmission planning power system analysis or electric utility consulting
- 2Strong technical aptitude and interest in advancing as a subject matter expert
- 3Experience working with utilities ISOs RTOs or consulting organizations
- 4Excellent analytical and communication skills
- 5Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field with 3 years of experience or Master degree with 2 years or PhD with 1 year
- 6Prior experience with electric utility operations planning consulting
- 7Experience with power system planning and operations transient stability short circuit and voltage analysis NERC FERC and regional requirements
- 8Knowledge of production costing risk assessment techniques TPL compliance generator interconnection or harmonics analysis
- 9Experience with electric transmission systems and planning processes
- 10Ability to execute various transmission system planning studies
- 11Knowledge of power regions and independent system operators such as PJM MISO NEISO SPP CAISO WECC SERC ERCOT NYISO
- 12Professional Engineer license preferred
- 13Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- 14Willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs evolve
