Digital Delivery Manager, Transmission Planning & Power Systems
Overview
Digital Delivery Manager will own the digital services strategy for the Transmission Planning and Power System Analysis (TP&PSA) business line at Burns & McDonnell, a national consultancy. This role reports to the Digital Delivery Director and supports projects across all offices, driving innovation through AI, Python, and automation tools. You will lead a team of engineers and analysts, manage the technology stack, and collaborate with business development to pursue new markets. The position requires deep expertise in transmission planning studies and power systems software like PSS/E and PSCAD.
What You'll Do8
- 1Develop and execute the digital strategy for the TP&PSA business line, driving innovation through AI and automation technologies.
- 2Own core automation tools supporting project execution, including development and maintenance with Python and C#.
- 3Partner with project managers to identify and implement automation opportunities that improve project processes and profitability.
- 4Support business development by collaborating with managers on software procurement, vendor partnerships, and new service offerings.
- 5Facilitate digital delivery coordination across regions and business lines, and coordinate best practice training on tools and automation.
- 6Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff, serving as a recognized industry leader in transmission planning.
- 7Direct and review team performance to ensure efficient, cost-effective project execution and alignment with quality guidelines.
- 8Lead initiatives to document, publish, and maintain quality processes aligned with core guidelines.
Requirements10
- 17+ years related experience with a bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, business, or related field; or 9+ years with an associate's degree; or 11+ years with a high school diploma/GED.
- 2Deep knowledge of electric transmission systems and planning processes, including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and electromagnetic transient studies.
- 3Extensive experience with industry software such as PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, TSAT, and PowerWorld.
- 4Strong programming skills with Python, C#, and other modern development languages.
- 5Experience applying AI tools like OpenAI Codex or Anthropic Claude Code to develop automation workflows.
- 6Proven ability to independently manage transmission planning studies with support from staff, and to develop automated workflows for steady-state and transient stability simulations.
- 7Demonstrated leadership in educating and training teams of engineers and analysts on transmission system planning studies.
- 8Effective project management skills, including managing multiple projects concurrently and identifying critical path items.
- 9Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- 10Professional registration (e.g., PE) preferred.
