Associate Engineer, Transmission System Planning
Overview
You will own transmission system impact studies and model development for DER interconnections at Eversource across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. You will build and maintain power system models in PSSE, TARA, PSCAD, and ASPEN, ensuring grid reliability under NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE standards. Working with senior engineers, you will analyze system performance, support solution development, and present findings to regulators and stakeholders. This role offers direct exposure to utility-scale planning and a path to advanced engineering expertise.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build and maintain transmission system models in PSSE and TARA, including load forecasts, equipment ratings, and contingency sets.
- 2Assist with DER impact studies across Eversource territories, verifying technical data and modeling per interconnection standards.
- 3Run power flow, short circuit, and stability analyses using PSCAD and ASPEN to identify system limitations.
- 4Support senior engineers in developing mitigation solutions for adverse impacts, testing alternatives with simulation tools.
- 5Document study results in clear technical reports for regulatory submissions and stakeholder communication.
- 6Automate repetitive study processes using Python scripts to improve efficiency.
- 7Coordinate with ISO-NE, distribution planning, and engineering teams to align system assumptions and outcomes.
- 8Present study findings to DER customers and regulatory agencies, addressing questions and incorporating feedback.
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Power Systems.
- 20-3 years of related experience, with internship experience preferred.
- 3Hands-on experience with PSSE, TARA, ASPEN, or similar transmission analysis tools.
- 4Proficiency in Python for scripting and data processing.
- 5Understanding of DER technologies including solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage.
- 6Knowledge of NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE reliability standards and criteria.
- 7Strong foundation in electrical theory and transmission planning principles.
