Associate Engineer, Power Systems & Protection
Overview
You will own engineering and technical services for complex systems and equipment at Eversource Energy, supporting the safe and reliable operation of the transmission and distribution network. You will split your time between the office and the field, designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing system disturbances, and working with transformers and electrical protection circuits. This role offers exposure to both design and hands-on testing, with a focus on protective relaying to ensure rapid fault isolation. You will collaborate across departments, manage projects independently, and contribute to the resilience of the grid for Boston, MA and surrounding areas.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design new substations and related infrastructure, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project specifications.
- 2Analyze system disturbances and equipment failures, performing root-cause analysis to recommend corrective actions for protection and control systems.
- 3Engineer electrical protection and control circuits that handle the flow of power, ensuring reliable operation during faults and abnormal conditions.
- 4Conduct acceptance testing of equipment such as transformers and relays, documenting results and resolving any anomalies.
- 5Prepare technical reports, calculations, and sketches for projects of increasing complexity, presenting findings to stakeholders.
- 6Execute non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight, managing schedules and interfaces across departments.
- 7Collaborate with field crews and other engineers to coordinate work activities, supporting both office and field operations.
- 8Support emergency restoration assignments, traveling as needed to MA, CT, and NH to restore service during outages.
Requirements8
- 10-3 years of related engineering experience, with a Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- 2Knowledge of utility power systems and power system software is preferred.
- 3Engineering design experience, particularly in substation or protection systems, is preferred.
- 4Ability to independently develop, present, and execute projects through cross-functional collaboration.
- 5Valid driver's license and ability to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.
- 6Must be available for emergency restoration assignments, including work outside normal hours.
- 7Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships and foster teamwork.
- 8Proficiency in technical and analytical competencies to handle assignments of increasing complexity.

$83 - $92k per year
