Electrical Engineer Utility Distribution Power Systems Oil and Gas
Overview
Mid-level Electrical Engineer leading power system studies and utility distribution engineering across North America. This role involves executing engineering deliverables with minimal supervision while collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams. It focuses on supporting industrial and utility projects through detailed design and technical documentation.
What You'll Do11
- 1Perform electrical engineering and design activities for industrial utility and oil & gas facilities using ETAP and other simulation tools
- 2Prepare power system studies including short circuit load flow and protective coordination analyses
- 3Develop and maintain comprehensive power system models for distribution and transmission projects
- 4Support medium and high voltage T&D initiatives including substation coordination and construction package development
- 5Create technical documents such as one-line diagrams and control schematics for client delivery
- 6Coordinate technical discussions with clients utilities and vendors to resolve engineering challenges
- 7Lead field assistance and commissioning support for distributed generation projects
- 8Validate study outcomes using engineering judgment and ensure compliance with NEC NESC and IEEE standards
- 9Track project milestones from preliminary design through issued-for-construction deliverables
- 10Check designs from designers and field personnel for accuracy and adherence to client specifications
- 11Apply protective relay settings and coordinate protection schemes under senior engineer guidance
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 2-6 years relevant experience
- 2FE/EIT licensure preferred with progression toward PE licensure
- 3Proficiency with ETAP SKM EasyPower PowerFactory and related power system analysis tools
- 4Experience with PSS/E and transmission planning software
- 5Knowledge of distribution substation systems and utility interconnection requirements
- 6Familiarity with protective relaying SEL relays and substation automation systems
- 72-6 years experience in oil & gas or industrial power systems
- 8Ability to travel up to 25% of time for field work and client engagements
- 9Strong written and oral communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder interaction
- 10Current US work authorization required
