Overview

Own the safe and engaging ExLP after school program for ages 5-13 at GVRD Vallejo. Lead recreational activities, supervise participants, enforce safety guidelines, and respond to parent and school concerns. Collaborate with senior staff to ensure quality experiences and alignment with program goals. This role sits within a dynamic youth department delivering after school programming across multiple facilities.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build and lead a variety of after school activities including sports, crafts, games, and field trips to create a positive youth development environment
  • 2Lead recreation activities, supervise children, and enforce safety rules and guidelines to maintain a safe program
  • 3Resolve conflicts among participants and provide first aid as needed to support a safe, engaging setting
  • 4Monitor activities in facilities or outdoor spaces and communicate program information to the public and stakeholders
  • 5Respond to parent, school or community concerns and escalate to higher level staff when necessary
  • 6Assist in general cleaning and upkeep of facilities and perform related duties as required
  • 7Support coordination of ExLP activities and trainings as needed
  • 8Document and report incidents or issues per program policies
  • 9Promote inclusivity and positive behavior through clear communication and role modeling
  • 10Participate in staff meetings and trainings related to the program and safety procedures

Requirements10

  • 1Must be at least 18 years of age and have some experience with youth recreation programs or childcare settings
  • 2C.P.R. and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain within six months of hire
  • 3Ability to learn recreation activities, rules and safety regulations
  • 4Ability to respond to inquiries from the public and communicate clearly in writing and speech
  • 5Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, families, and staff
  • 6Ability to work under supervision of the Senior Recreation Leader and attend trainings
  • 7Proficiency in following oral and written instructions and completing assigned tasks
  • 8Freedom to work on location at 395 Amador St Vallejo and other GVRD sites
  • 9Commitment to equal opportunity employment and program safety standards
  • 10Ability to perform first aid and basic activity supervision in an after school setting
