Quoting Specialist, Manufacturing Cost Estimation
Overview
Own the end-to-end quoting process for a high-mix, build-to-print manufacturer, turning customer RFQs and engineering docs into accurate, competitive cost estimates. You build cost models in Excel, validate with Engineering and Operations, and structure quote packages that align with Paragon's production capability. From material costs to labor standards, you ensure every quote reflects what Paragon can actually deliver. This role anchors cross-functional alignment and directly impacts revenue, making it ideal for a detail-oriented analyst who thrives on data and collaboration.
What You'll Do10
- 1Review RFQs, engineering drawings, BOMs, and specs to scope complexity before building estimates.
- 2Build detailed cost estimates in Excel covering materials, labor, outside services, and tooling.
- 3Coordinate with Engineering to validate manufacturing methods and design-for-manufacturability impacts.
- 4Pull labor standards and cycle times from Operations to ground estimates in reality.
- 5Align with Business Operations on current material costs and supplier lead times.
- 6Identify approved suppliers for new BOM items and feed sourcing inputs to the Purchaser.
- 7Structure quote packages with clear cost breakdowns and assumptions for Sales submission.
- 8Support rebids by integrating updated costs, scope changes, and lessons learned.
- 9Flag quoting risks like lead time uncertainty, material cost spikes, or spec ambiguity.
- 10Document all quote data and assumptions in company systems for traceability.
Requirements11
- 1Associate's degree in Business, Manufacturing Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 23-5+ years in quoting, estimating, or cost analysis in a manufacturing environment.
- 3Ability to read engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications.
- 4Experience building cost estimates that include material, labor, and outside services.
- 5Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, labor standards, and cost drivers.
- 6Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and data analysis.
- 7Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple quotes simultaneously.
- 8Effective communication for cross-functional coordination.
- 9Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Supply Chain.
- 10Preferred: Experience in cable assemblies, wire harnesses, PCBs, or electro-mechanical manufacturing.
- 11Preferred: Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and regulated industries (aerospace, defense, medical).
