Cost Accounting Manager, Manufacturing Cost Analysis
Overview
You will build and lead the cost accounting function for a rapidly growing manufacturing organization in Dallas, Texas. This role owns the standard costing process, inventory valuation, and profitability reporting across a multi-customer production environment. You will partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance leadership to drive cost accuracy and operational decisions. You will supervise and mentor a cost accounting team, with direct visibility to executive leadership. This is a hands-on role offering the chance to shape processes and controls during significant company growth.
What You'll Do10
- 1Own the standard costing process, including BOMs, routings, labor standards, and overhead absorption rates to ensure accurate cost allocation.
- 2Lead job costing activities across production runs, products, and customers, using SAP, NetSuite, or SYSPRO for precise cost tracking.
- 3Drive variance analysis for material, labor, overhead, yield, and waste, partnering with Operations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- 4Supervise, mentor, and develop cost accounting team members, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
- 5Prepare profitability and margin reporting by product and customer, providing actionable insights to leadership.
- 6Manage inventory valuation, work-in-process accounting, and inventory reconciliations, ensuring compliance with company policies.
- 7Lead cycle counts, physical inventories, and variance investigations to maintain inventory accuracy.
- 8Support new product launches, customer onboarding, and operational changes through detailed cost analysis.
- 9Assist with month-end close activities related to inventory and cost of goods sold, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- 10Develop and maintain cost accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, and support internal and external audits.
Requirements10
- 15+ years of manufacturing cost accounting experience with strong knowledge of standard costing, BOMs, routings, inventory, and WIP accounting.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, CMA, or CPIM designation preferred.
- 3Prior leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience, with proven ability to mentor and develop staff.
- 4Strong cost variance analysis skills, including material, labor, and overhead variances.
- 5ERP experience including SAP, NetSuite, SYSPRO, or similar platforms.
- 6Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting.
- 7Strong communication, organizational, and project management abilities to manage multiple priorities.
- 8Proven ability to thrive in a high-growth, multi-customer production environment and drive process improvements.
- 9Hands-on experience with inventory valuation, cycle counts, and physical inventories.
- 10Ability to partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to support operational decision-making.
