Accounting Manager, Manufacturing & Inventory
Overview
Accounting Manager owns inventory accounting for a Kansas City manufacturer. You will lead inventory transaction oversight, period-end close, and financial controls tied to material movement. This role partners with supply chain, operations, and finance to ensure accurate reporting and inventory valuation. You will supervise cycle counts, reserves, and system upgrades using Excel and ERP platforms. This position offers clear growth in a high-volume production environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead inventory transactions (receipts, transfers, production postings, adjustments) to maintain accurate financial reporting in SAP or Oracle.
- 2Monitor inventory subledger vs. general ledger, researching discrepancies and correcting records for timely close.
- 3Supervise period-end close activities for inventory, reviewing journal entries and reconciliations in JD Edwards.
- 4Assess inventory reserves, obsolescence, shrink, and valuation adjustments to confirm proper balances.
- 5Partner with operations, warehouse, and procurement to analyze irregular transactions and strengthen accuracy.
- 6Develop and enforce inventory control procedures aligned with audit requirements and accounting standards.
- 7Oversee cycle count programs and physical inventory reviews, resolving discrepancies quickly.
- 8Generate inventory analysis for management, highlighting trends, exposure, and process improvements.
- 9Support system upgrades and testing for ERP workflow improvements affecting inventory processes.
- 10Coach and develop staff in inventory functions to build ownership and consistency.
Requirements8
- 15+ years in accounting with hands-on inventory valuation and cost accounting experience.
- 2Degree in accounting, finance, or related business field.
- 3Prior manufacturing accounting experience, ideally high-volume production.
- 4Leadership experience overseeing team members and cross-functional guidance.
- 5Solid knowledge of inventory controls, reconciliations, and close cycles.
- 6Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reconciliations.
- 7Familiarity with JD Edwards, Oracle, or SAP.
- 8Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with clear communication.
Salary Insight
$90 - $110k per year
