Property Accountant, HUD & Low Income Housing
Overview
You will own the full accounting cycle for a growing portfolio of residential and low income housing properties in NYC. Your work ensures accurate financial reporting for HUD and Section 8 projects. You will collaborate with the Controller to integrate new acquisitions and support long-term growth. This role offers direct exposure to Yardi and Financial Edge systems and a hybrid schedule.
What You'll Do7
- 1Prepare monthly financial statements for each property, including rent rolls and reserve calculations.
- 2Record journal entries for limited liability, tax credits, and intercompany transactions.
- 3Manage cash flow by tracking reserves and pulling funds when required for property operations.
- 4Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances for assigned properties.
- 5Assist with annual budgets and audits for HUD and Section 8 compliance.
- 6Collaborate with property managers and funders like OMH and DOH to resolve issues.
- 7Support the Controller in modeling new acquisitions and integrating them into the accounting system.
Requirements5
- 12+ years of property accounting experience with low income housing (HUD, Section 8, or Housing Lottery).
- 2Experience with limited liability, tax credits, rent rolls, reserves, and reserve withdrawals.
- 3BA/BS in accounting from an accredited school.
- 4Knowledge of Yardi or Financial Edge is a plus.
- 5Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with internal and external stakeholders.
