PLSS Project Engineer, EVA Spacesuit Systems
Overview
You will own project engineering for PLSS hardware across design, development, test, and certification for EVA spacesuits at NASA. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team at Nexus, analyzing customer requirements and producing design solutions that meet strict NASA standards. Expect to lead test configuration builds, troubleshoot integration issues, and shape critical documentation like hazard analyses and test reports. What You'll Do7
- 1Own PLSS project engineering from requirements analysis through certification, including design, procurement, and manufacture.
- 2Drive design solutions in a team environment, translating customer needs into actionable PLSS hardware specifications.
- 3Update plans and agreements with PLSS team leadership to align work scope and milestones.
- 4Build and assemble test configurations, then execute PLSS hardware testing to validate system performance.
- 5Debug and resolve technical issues that surface during integration and test phases.
- 6Review engineering drawings, requirements, and system specs for NASA compliance and accuracy.
- 7Produce documentation, including test reports, hazard analyses, and TPS procedures, and execute them effectively.
Requirements8
- 1BS degree in engineering from an accredited university.
- 22-5 years of experience in engineering, preferably in aerospace or related fields.
- 3Detailed knowledge of vent loop gas flow rates, pressure management, and CO2 control in closed and open loop modes.
- 4Understanding of xEMU design goals for each vent loop component, including pressure capabilities and flow dynamics.
- 5Familiarity with previous vent loop build and testing, covering component checkouts and DVT/TVAC tests.
- 6Ability to predict consequences of design changes to the xEMU baseline vent loop.
- 7Detailed knowledge of thermal control and auxiliary thermal loops, including heat removal, flow rates, and material compatibility.
- 8Understanding of design trades for xEMU thermal loops and hardware build history, with testing knowledge at component and PLSS levels.
