Mechanical Design Engineer PE - NASA JSC HVAC
Overview
You will own mechanical design for existing facilities at NASA Johnson Space Center, serving as the Amentum Project Engineer. You will manage projects with daily interface to NASA Project Managers, from HVAC and plumbing to fire protection. Join a team of Professional Engineers and designers, with your PE license required. What You'll Do8
- 1Manage assigned projects as Amentum Project Engineer, interfacing with NASA Project Managers daily.
- 2Design and analyze mechanical systems including HVAC (AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, VAVs, ductwork, controls), plumbing, heating, cooling, water, gas, fire protection, and building services.
- 3Perform HVAC load calculations and implement equipment sizing, duct sizing layout, pipe system design for chilled water, heating water, steam, condensate, gas, compressed air, vacuum, lab gases, and temperature controls (DDC and pneumatic).
- 4Conduct job walks and prepare Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mechanical systems.
- 5Prepare mechanical plans and drawings using AutoCAD design software.
- 6Ensure design compliance with local and national codes and standards, and drawing standards including tolerances and detailed drawings.
- 7Apply product design principles to existing facilities, focusing on safety and quality.
- 8Communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and contractors to convey project intent.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 2Professional Engineering License registered in the state of Texas.
- 37+ years of experience in mechanical engineering product design and development.
- 4Experience with mechanical design principles in existing facilities buildings.
- 5Familiarity with local and national codes and standards.
- 6Experience with drawing standards including tolerances and detailed drawings.
- 7U.S. Citizenship required for NASA badge.
- 8Valid Texas driver's license.
- 9Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- 10Skills in CAD software such as Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and CAE tools like HAP, Trace, Elite.
