Sr. Mechanical Engineering Manager, HVAC & Plumbing Design
Overview
Lead Citrine's mechanical engineering team while staying hands-on with complex design work. You will own technical direction for commercial, industrial, and federal projects, guiding HVAC systems, plumbing, piping, and equipment selection. You'll mentor engineers, review deliverables, and serve as the senior technical resource clients trust. This role balances team leadership with active project involvement in a hybrid setup based in Lakewood or Grand Junction, CO. Travel to project sites and client offices is required.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead the mechanical engineering team, setting technical direction and mentoring engineers across HVAC, plumbing, and process systems.
- 2Serve as senior technical lead for commercial, industrial, and government projects, reviewing drawings, specs, and calculations for code compliance.
- 3Drive mechanical design from concept through construction, including HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, and Revit modeling.
- 4Resolve complex engineering challenges by providing technical guidance on system optimization and energy efficiency.
- 5Coordinate with project managers and clients to define mechanical scope, manage risks, and ensure successful project delivery.
- 6Establish quality control processes and best practices for mechanical design, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- 7Support resource planning and workload balancing across the mechanical team, prioritizing tasks for project deadlines.
- 8Mentor engineers through onboarding, performance evaluations, and professional development plans.
- 9Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and site visits, ensuring mechanical systems meet client expectations.
- 10Collaborate with construction teams during commissioning and startup, resolving field issues to keep projects on schedule.
Requirements10
- 110+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, with leadership in projects or teams.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, piping, and mechanical equipment design for commercial or industrial facilities.
- 4Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, and calculations for accuracy and code compliance.
- 5Working knowledge of codes such as ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, and SMACNA.
- 6Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- 7Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
- 8Ability to manage multiple priorities while mentoring engineers and meeting project deadlines.
- 9Valid driver's license and ability to obtain security clearance for government sites.
- 10PE license preferred, or ability to obtain licensure.
