Phlebotomist, Phlebotomy & Patient Service Center
Overview
Own the phlebotomy workflow in a fast paced patient service center and laboratory setting. You will perform venipuncture and specimen handling for diverse ages from pediatric to geriatric, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Collaborate with a small team to maintain quality and patient experience, while supporting training and process improvements. This role offers hands on practice in a contract to hire arrangement located onsite in Manassas and Washington DC.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and perform venipuncture and other blood draws with safe, accurate technique
- 2Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders to preserve specimen integrity
- 3Explain procedures clearly to patients to ensure comfort and understanding
- 4Match requisitions to tubes and verify patient and test information for 100 accuracy
- 5Follow temperature control and packaging protocols for transport and storage of specimens
- 6Check requisitions or labels against provider scripts to ensure complete accuracy
- 7Assist with training and mentoring colleagues on phlebotomy techniques and workflow
- 8Troubleshoot workflow issues and propose process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality
- 9Provide courteous customer service to patients and healthcare providers in a fast paced setting
- 10Maintain compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and participate in routine decontamination and record keeping
Requirements10
- 1High school diploma or GED
- 2Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations
- 3Minimum of 2+ years of phlebotomy experience
- 4Proficiency with MS Office and clinical data entry
- 5Ability to work in a fast paced laboratory or patient service center
- 6Strong attention to detail in specimen handling and labeling
- 7Experience collecting multiple specimen types including blood, urine, and fecal samples
- 8Excellent verbal communication and patient interaction skills
- 9Comfort working with pediatric through geriatric patients and adapting communication accordingly
- 10Ability to read and follow physician orders and laboratory protocols
