What You'll Do8
- 1Perform venous blood draws using vacutainer, syringe, and butterfly techniques on adults in varied health conditions.
- 2Select phlebotomy sites based on patient condition, age group, and test requirements, using your knowledge of human anatomy and aseptic technique.
- 3Prepare collection sites and manage specimens according to test types, anticoagulants, and transport conditions.
- 4Train new employees and student trainees in proper phlebotomy and specimen collection methods.
- 5Process specimens by centrifugation and aliquoting, ensuring the correct tubes and volumes per test request.
- 6Administer glucose tolerance tests, including pretest substances and timed blood draws.
- 7Disinfect and close the Phlebotomy Room at shift end, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- 8Assist medical staff with patients who faint, convulse, or become ill during procedures.
Requirements7
- 1High school graduate with completion of a certified phlebotomy training program.
- 22+ years of phlebotomy experience in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- 3Experience with accessioning and processing laboratory specimens.
- 4Ability to read and follow standard operating procedures for laboratory processes.
- 5Clear communication of daily status and issues to team members and senior management.
- 6Computer literacy for data entry and specimen tracking.
- 7BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
