PBX Operator, Hospital Communications & Night Shift
Overview
Own the hospital voicemail and call routing at night, ensuring accurate information delivery and rapid escalation when needed. You will support urgent security and emergency communications across departments, handling HIPAA-safe patient identifiers and Epic data with care. Join a dedicated on-site team partnering with Security and IT to maintain calm, professional service during overnight hours. This role offers hands-on experience with hospital paging systems and emergency response protocols in a large healthcare setting.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and maintain courteous, accurate phone routing and information services across departments
- 2Design efficient paging using Interactive Intelligence and the security radio to support patient and staff needs
- 3Lead timely responses to calls, alarms, and emergencies with Security and facilities to ensure safety
- 4Ship accurate patient identifiers in Epic to avoid HIPAA violations and support patient admissions
- 5Own documentation of emergency codes in the code book and follow alarm paging protocols
- 6Scale collaboration with colleagues, physicians, and visitors to deliver exceptional service and teamwork
- 7Drive participation in performance improvement initiatives and department projects
- 8Pilot ongoing training for new staff to ensure smooth onboarding and consistent service
- 9Demonstrate strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records
- 10Support on-site shift coverage and attendance adherence to maintain continuous operations
Requirements10
- 1Six (6) months or more of phone experience in a hospital or call center is a plus
- 2Must communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing
- 3Strong customer service skills and positive work ethic
- 4General computer skills including electronic medical records and Microsoft Office
- 5Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to train new staff
- 6Ability to be at work on time and adhere to time and attendance policies
- 7Ability to multitask and interact in a positive constructive manner
- 8Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese preferred
- 9High school graduate preferred
- 10Experience with hospital admitting processes is a plus
