Payroll Manager, Multi-State Payroll & Compliance
Overview
Own and scale bi-monthly payroll operations for a large multi-state workforce in a high-volume setting. Lead a payroll team, ensure accurate processing and timely delivery while maintaining compliance with wage and tax regulations. Collaborate with HR, Finance, and benefits to deliver precise reporting, reconciliations, and process improvements. This role stands out with hands-on system initiatives and a focus on data integrity and employee support.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead and develop the payroll team to ensure accurate, timely processing and strong employee support
- 2Oversee multi-state payroll operations including pay calculations, deductions, taxes, timekeeping, and payroll records
- 3Review payroll data, resolve discrepancies, and manage special payments, corrections, and changes
- 4Ensure compliance with payroll laws, tax regulations, audits, and company policies
- 5Partner with HR, Finance, and benefits teams to support payroll accuracy, reporting, and reconciliations
- 6Prepare payroll reports, maintain documentation, and safeguard confidential information
- 7Improve payroll processes, controls, systems, and workflows to enhance efficiency and service quality
- 8Serve as primary resource for payroll issues and support payroll-related projects and system initiatives
- 9Maintain confidentiality and security of payroll data
- 10Support year-end processing and audits as needed
Requirements10
- 15+ years of payroll experience including multi-state payroll
- 22+ years leading or supervising payroll staff
- 3Bachelor’s degree and/or CPP preferred or equivalent experience
- 4Strong knowledge of payroll processing, taxes, compliance, deductions, timekeeping, and reporting
- 5Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- 6Ability to handle confidential information with accuracy and professionalism
- 7Experience with payroll allocations, job costing, audits, year-end processing, and process improvement
- 8Experience with CPP certification preferred
- 9Solid experience with payroll system and report generation
- 10Ability to collaborate effectively with HR, Finance, and benefits teams
