Operations Specialist, Transportation Operations Center
Overview
You will monitor the nation's transportation system for the Department of Transportation (DOT) Transportation Operations Center (TOC) in Washington, DC. This role runs 24x7x365, tracking incidents, accidents, and threats, and assessing impacts on infrastructure. You will work on a team of four, rotating 12-hour day and night shifts on a Panama-style schedule. You will use WebEOC, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office to report and disseminate critical information. This position requires an active Secret clearance and suitability for TS/SCI.
What You'll Do10
- 1Monitor the status of the nation's transportation systems, reporting incidents, accidents, or threats to system integrity.
- 2Obtain information from various communications equipment including e-mail, secure e-mail, telephone, secure telephone, facsimile, secure facsimile, high-frequency radio, satellite telephone, and secure/unsecure VTCs.
- 3Determine the appropriate method and format for sending information per Standard Operating Procedures.
- 4Contribute to situational awareness by monitoring and disseminating items of interest to decision-makers and leadership.
- 5Develop and maintain working relationships with personnel from other departments and agencies to promote the client organization as a central point of exchange.
- 6Become proficient with WebEOC for statistical, reporting, and archiving purposes.
- 7Review and present 'best practice' changes to operations and information SOPs, checklists, templates, and administrative processes.
- 8Oversee preparation and distribution of critical reports and alerts, ensuring timely and accurate briefings for the Secretary.
- 9Initiate and receive nonsecure and secure VTCs, troubleshooting system problems, rekeying encryption devices, and operating peripheral devices as needed.
- 10Assist with emergency message dissemination using contact lists and specific scenarios for employee notifications.
Requirements9
- 18-10 years of experience in operations center, military, law enforcement, or emergency management.
- 2High school diploma or equivalent certificate required.
- 3Active Secret clearance and suitability for TS/SCI.
- 4US Citizen.
- 5Experience with Microsoft Office, WebEOC, SharePoint, and COOP is a plus.
- 6Ability to work 12-hour shifts in a 24/7/365 environment, including rotating days and nights.
- 7Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- 8Team-oriented, dependable, organized, and flexible.
- 9Willingness to work additional hours during major disasters and activations.
