Emergency Services Coordinator, Cal OES State Operations Center
Overview
You will coordinate emergency response operations for the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) State Operations Center, serving a population of 39 million. You will support the IST Operations Section during steady state and activations, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and may lead a Task Force. This role places you at the hub of statewide disaster response, with direct impact on life-safety decisions. You will work on-site in Sacramento, with potential for extended deployment to emergency sites.
What You'll Do8
- 1Coordinate mission assignments across the Operations Section, aligning with Law, Fire & Rescue, and Recovery partners.
- 2Serve as the Operations Section Liaison between Cal OES and internal teams, local governments, and federal agencies during disasters.
- 3Support a Task Force as primary or secondary lead, ensuring resource coordination and operational readiness.
- 4Draft operational reports and action plans for the Operations Chief, synthesizing field data into decision-ready briefs.
- 5Monitor the State Operations Center alert systems and dispatch resources within 15 minutes of activation.
- 6Build cooperative relationships with regional coordinators and victim services to align response strategies.
- 7Manage sensitive information with confidentiality, using sound judgment under pressure.
- 8Stand up and staff the operations floor during emergency activations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements7
- 11+ year of experience in emergency management, incident command, or public safety coordination.
- 2Familiarity with the Incident Command System structure and its application in multi-agency response.
- 3Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and briefings.
- 4Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access) for data tracking and documentation.
- 5Valid Driver's License and ability to travel to emergency sites with little notice.
- 6Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines during high-pressure events.
- 7Tact in handling sensitive and confidential matters, maintaining discretion and composure.
