Emergency Management Coordinator, Higher Ed & EOC
Overview
You will lead emergency preparedness and planning for Rice University, owning the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and directing EOC activations. You report to the Emergency Management Director and collaborate with campus departments, regional partners, and incident response teams. Your role shapes the university's resilience through mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This on-site position requires decisiveness under pressure and a strategic vision for institutional safety.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build and maintain emergency response and mass notification software templates, rooms, and operating procedures
- 2Own contact lists, incident response documents, and web-based document systems for critical operations
- 3Drive planning teams, coordinate planning meetings, and draft emergency plans for the university
- 4Design and coordinate emergency exercises, develop after-action reviews, and manage the improvement item list
- 5Serve on the Emergency Management Team and deliver training to the Rice community
- 6Collaborate with incident response team leads to present, resolve, and implement emergency management issues
- 7Attend university-level and external meetings to build regional EM partnerships
- 8Assume a leadership role during EOC activations, ensuring continuity of critical operations
Requirements6
- 1Bachelor's Degree (additional experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis)
- 22+ years of independent leadership in disaster/recovery operations
- 3Solid knowledge of safety and disaster/recovery procedures
- 4Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to influence management
- 5Ability to analyze and resolve problems in stressful situations
- 6Action-oriented decision-making under pressure
Salary Insight
$70 - $75k per year
