Network Engineer, VMware & AWS GovCloud
Overview
You will own the design, deployment, and upkeep of enterprise network, server, and cloud environments for a government-focused IT infrastructure team in Washington, D.C. This role sits on a dynamic team supporting mission-critical operations, with a strong focus on VMware, Hyper-V, and AWS GovCloud. You will work onsite at the Navy Yard at least 3 days a week, with the opportunity to obtain or use a Secret Security Clearance. This contract role demands hands-on expertise and the ability to stabilize and modernize infrastructure under tight deadlines.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and deploy VMware and Hyper-V virtualized environments, ensuring high availability and performance for enterprise workloads.
- 2Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including patching, configuration, and troubleshooting across multiple sites.
- 3Support and migrate infrastructure to AWS GovCloud, optimizing for security and compliance in a government context.
- 4Troubleshoot and resolve network, server, and cloud incidents, minimizing downtime and ensuring service continuity.
- 5Implement network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and access controls, to protect sensitive data.
- 6Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute infrastructure upgrades and migrations.
- 7Document network and server configurations, processes, and procedures for operational reference.
- 8Monitor system performance and capacity, recommending and implementing improvements to meet evolving needs.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on enterprise environments.
- 2Hands-on expertise with VMware and Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
- 3Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration (2012, 2016, 2019, or later).
- 4Experience with AWS GovCloud is preferred; familiarity with AWS core services is a plus.
- 5Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
- 6Local to Washington, D.C., with ability to work onsite at Navy Yard at least 3 days per week.
- 7Proven ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including routing, switching, and firewalls.
- 8Strong documentation and communication skills, with attention to detail.
