Maintenance Mechanic, Facilities & HVAC at Westhab
Overview
Maintenance Mechanic owns interior and exterior facility repairs at a 200 bed homeless shelter, with scale across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, windows, and locks. Works under the Lead Mechanic and supports Custodian/Driver when needed. Role requires weekend and evening shifts and hands-on troubleshooting to keep the facility in working order.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and perform repairs in building and on grounds to maintain operations
- 2Troubleshoot and fix electrical and plumbing issues including outlets, switches, fixtures, drains, sinks, tubs and toilets
- 3Maintain and service HVAC units and replace filters
- 4Repair damaged sheetrock, plaster, windows, doors, locks, flooring and room furnishings
- 5Complete room turnovers and manage work orders for occupied rooms
- 6Execute preventative maintenance checklists as directed by Supervisor
- 7Assist with resident transfers, packing and storing belongings as needed
- 8In the absence of Custodian/Driver, perform custodial duties and drive agency vehicles as required
- 9Escort contractors, inspectors and visitors and accept deliveries
- 10Support transfers, packing and storage activities and assist with maintaining overall site cleanliness
Requirements10
- 1High School Diploma or GED with English and Math skills
- 2Two (2) years mechanical experience and experience with floor care equipment and procedures
- 3Trade/Technical School training a plus
- 4Valid NYS Driver license and clean record
- 5Experience with light electrical and plumbing tasks and basic carpentry
- 6Ability to work weekends and evenings
- 7Prior facility maintenance experience in a shelter or similar setting preferred
- 8Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- 9Ability to operate and drive agency vehicles as needed
- 10Must pass background checks and comply with OSHA standards
