Lead Maintenance Technician, Facilities & Maintenance at MCCH
Overview
Lead Maintenance Technician owns hands-on maintenance across the MCCH and Coalition Homes portfolio at the Nebel Street Shelter, serving up to 220 residents. You will perform preventive, routine, corrective, and emergency maintenance to keep facilities safe and functional. You will collaborate with shelter leadership, the DGS, and external vendors to coordinate repairs and ensure compliance with safety and county requirements. This role requires on-call availability and a focus on a trauma-informed, respectful environment for clients and staff.
What You'll Do13
- 1Build, manage, and track maintenance work orders to address safety, urgency, and operational impact
- 2Personally perform routine, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance tasks on building systems and grounds
- 3Maintain records of work orders, inspections, repairs, and vendor interactions for audit readiness
- 4Develop and monitor a preventive maintenance schedule for systems, spaces, equipment, and grounds
- 5Coordinate with DGS for repairs, secure unsafe conditions, and ensure timely resolution of issues
- 6Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies and recommend purchases to shelter leadership
- 7Report status, safety concerns, and project plans to shelter leadership and county partners
- 8Identify work requiring licensed contractors, obtain quotes, coordinate access, and verify completion per standards
- 9Serve as primary maintenance point of contact for the shelter and participate in on-call rotations
- 10Support readiness for capacity changes, seasonal operations, and emergency responses
- 11Ensure maintenance work minimizes disruption and respects client privacy and trauma-informed environment
- 12Oversee contracted cleaning team, monitor schedules and quality, and address any performance gaps
- 13Coordinate specialized cleaning services and pest control with leadership and vendors
Requirements11
- 1High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in building maintenance or related field preferred
- 2Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in building maintenance or facilities operations, including coordination or leadership
- 3Knowledge of preventive maintenance, building systems, and safe work practices
- 4Experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and mechanical repairs
- 5Experience overseeing custodial/cleaning services and conducting quality inspections
- 6Ability to assess priorities, respond to emergencies, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- 7Ability to maintain maintenance records and schedules using CMMS or basic computer tools
- 8Ability to identify work requiring licensed contractors and coordinate with DGS and external vendors
- 9Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with clients, staff, contractors, and partners
- 10Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies as needed
- 11Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record if travel between facilities is required
