Litigation Associate Attorney, Public Entity & PI Defense
Overview
You will own a full caseload of litigated public entity, personal injury, employment, and construction defect claims at Graves & King LLP in Glendale, Phoenix. You will drive every phase of defense litigation, from pleadings through discovery, depositions, and motion practice. You will work within a collaborative team of attorneys and paralegals, reporting directly to the managing partner. This role offers direct client contact and court experience, with a path to increased responsibility based on performance.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own 20+ active public entity and personal injury cases from filing through resolution. Draft pleadings, discovery responses, and motions in State Court.
- 2Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs, experts, and witnesses. Prepare witnesses for testimony and manage discovery disputes.
- 3Conduct legal research on liability, damages, and immunity issues using Westlaw and LexisNexis.
- 4Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and courts to meet deadlines. Negotiate settlements up to $250K.
- 5Attend case management conferences, status conferences, and hearings. Argue motions before the bench.
- 6Coordinate with expert witnesses, including accident reconstructionists and medical professionals. Draft expert reports and manage expert discovery.
- 7Prepare clients for mediation and arbitration. Draft settlement agreements and releases.
- 8Train and supervise junior associates and paralegals in litigation procedures. Provide feedback on drafting and case strategy.
Requirements8
- 13+ years of defense-oriented litigation experience, with focus on public entity or personal injury defense.
- 2Admitted to the Arizona Bar and in good standing.
- 3Proven ability to manage a caseload of 15+ active files independently.
- 4Exceptional legal research and writing skills, with published motions or briefs.
- 5Strong oral advocacy, including experience arguing dispositive motions in court.
- 6Experience with LexisNexis, Westlaw, and document management systems.
- 7Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and professional development.
- 8Ability to travel within Maricopa County for court appearances and client meetings.
Salary Insight
$120 - $160k per year
